Flavio was a promising young footballer, until he was the victim of a brutal stabbing which left him in a life-threatening condition. Thankfully he recovered, but his life spiralled and he ended up homeless.
This is his story.
‘I was going from friend’s house to friend’s house, asking them if I could sleep over, which was a bit embarrassing.’
After sofa surfing for around six to seven months, Flavio was eventually put in touch with Evolve Housing and Support who helped him find accommodation. They supported him in getting his life back on track and guided him through this process.
Following the stabbing, after he came out of hospital, Flavio was keen to do something with purpose, something to help other youths and stop them ending up in a similar situation to him, or worse. Linking this ambition with his passion for football, he got involved with coaching youth football in Croydon. This proved a great success.
Inspired by this and keen to continue giving back, Flavio has now set up his own music studio through which he aims to offer opportunities and development to those in need. He is looking forward to a positive future with his family, including his girlfriend and newborn baby.
For the month of December, we’re bringing you a series of videos from Homeless Stories, a film initiative that tells the stories of the men and women who end up homeless and the charities that support them.
