Bulldog Becomes First Cruelty-Free Skincare Brand in China

Bulldog Skincare has made history by becoming one of the first skincare brands to sell their cruelty-free products in China.

The opportunity came as part of the Leaping Bunny China Pilot Project, a ‘ground-breaking collaborative project that will potentially enable cruelty free companies to sell their cosmetic products in China free from the risk of animal testing’.

China, one of the world’s biggest and fastest growing markets for cosmetics, requires animal testing on products sold in physical shops. This is why beauty brands that want to earn and maintain their Leaping Bunny cruelty-free status have had to give China a miss in their international expansion.

This pilot project may signal the end of that requirement.

This pilot project was launched by Cruelty Free International in cooperation with the Shanghai Fengpu Industrial Park, Knudsen&Co and Oriental Beauty Valley.

Bull Dog is one of four companies taking part in the pilot project. The other three brands are Neal’s Yard Remedies, Seventh Heaven and Subtle Energies. It will be the first to go on sale in mainland China.

‘We know there is demand from consumers in China for cruelty free cosmetics and incentive for companies to operate in the Chinese market. Having worked intensely with our partners in China, we are delighted to be able to announce this ground-breaking project.

This is a great opportunity for us to gauge the level of demand from international brands to register their interest in entering the market in China. This is a really exciting scheme that could benefit animals, consumers and cruelty free companies alike.’

Bulldog’s products will be available in Watsons’ Shanghai stores from late 2019.
